During its 45-year existence the "Syracuse Union" has proven itself to be a faithful guardian and defender of the interests of the local Germans. The confidence that it enjoys today among all levels of the German population has been based, not on the fluctuations of political prejudices, but is rather the result of long years of experience.

From the moment when it first declared itself for the principles of the Republican Party it has up until the present hour never been unfaithful.

Newspapers are the mouthpiece of a free people, through which they announce their will. But while the newspapers are performing that function, they also unfortunately sometimes for "sound" reasons deny their convictions in favor of their comfort; yet it can be maintained that the "Syracuse Union" ever remained incorruptible. Its political stance was never affected by considerations of personal advantage or profit. It can be proud of its past, and this offers a sure pledge for its attitude in the future.

The change in the editorial stance of the "Union" has already been reported in the historical section of this book; and this book itself is proof of the spirit of enterprise and the patriotic conviction of the present owner and editor, J. Peter Pinzer.

Under his direction the German may be assured that the "Union" will continue to be faithful to its political principles. In religious matters it upholds the view that each in his own way will be blessed and that such questions concerning the pros and cons of religion do not belong in the arena of a political newspaper.

Church communities, associations, and societies may be assured that at all times they will receive correct and impartial treatment and obliging cooperation. In all questions of public life the "Union" will be found on the side of what’s right; it stands firmly and will manfully vouch for the sacred values of freedom and will always be ready to stand by the individual in both word and deed.
